Day 7 - Nagoya Full Day Tour & Trip to Kyoto by Shinkansen | Nagoya Castle, Toyota Kaikan Museum, SCMAGLEV and Railway Park

Day 8 - Kyoto Full Day Classic tour | Higashi Honganji Temple, Sanjusangendo, Nishiki Market, Tea Ceremony

Higashi Hongan-ji Temple, situated in Kyoto, Japan, is a prominent center of the Jodo Shinshu sect of Buddhism, alongside the nearby Nishi Hongan-ji Temple. Sanjusangendo, also known as Rengeo-in, is a renowned temple in eastern Kyoto celebrated for its remarkable collection of 1001 statues depicting Kannon, the goddess of mercy. The centerpiece is a wooden statue of a 1000-armed Kannon (Senju Kannon), flanked on either side by 500 human-sized statues of the same deity, forming a breathtaking spectacle within the temple.

Day 9 - Nara Full Day Excursion | Fushimi Inari Shrine, Ujigami Shrine, Byodoin Temple, Byodoin Omotesando

Fushimi Inari Shrine/Red Torii Gates is an important Shinto shrine in southern Kyoto.  It is famous for its thousands of vermilion torii gates, which straddle a network of trails behind its main buildings.  The trails lead into the wooded forest of the sacred Mount Inari, which stands at 233 meters and belongs to the shrine grounds.

Ujigami Shrine, thought to be Japan's oldest existing shrine, dates back to around 1060 and holds deep historical significance. As the “guardian shrine” of nearby Byodo-in Temple, Ujigami Shrine is a treasured site in Uji, a city renowned for its high-quality green tea. While tea cultivation in Japan is believed to have begun at Kozanji Temple in Kyoto, Uji’s reputation for exceptional tea blossomed in the 12th century, making it famous nationwide. Today, visitors can experience Uji’s rich cultural heritage through both its ancient shrines and celebrated tea traditions.

Byodo-in Temple in Uji is a masterpiece of Japanese architecture and a UNESCO World Heritage site, celebrated for its elegant Phoenix Hall, which appears to float serenely over a reflecting pond. Originally built in 1052, the temple offers visitors a journey back in time to Japan’s Heian Period, with intricate carvings, peaceful gardens, and a museum showcasing historical treasures, including the renowned Phoenix statues. Byodo-in Temple’s breathtaking beauty, often reflected in the still waters surrounding it, also inspired the design of Japan’s 10-yen coin, making it a must-visit landmark for both history lovers and those seeking tranquility.

Omotesando in Uji is a charming, historic street that leads up to the famous Byodo-in Temple. Lined with traditional tea shops, artisan boutiques, and cafes, it’s the perfect place to experience Uji’s renowned matcha culture.
